Meet our Instructors!! Our goal is to make sure that everyone has a great time experiencing that first glide on a Stand up Paddle Board, that simple!
Dana
Dana moved to the Huntersville area about five years from Clearwater Beach Florida. She started paddle boarding on Florida’s beautiful gulf coast which is ideal for the sport. She was immediately hooked on SUP and since then made it a point to paddle board in the places she visits including Cabo San Lucas, Laguna Beach California, Miami and even Lake Michigan. In addition to SUP Dana enjoys Pilates, Yoga, hiking and almost anything on the water. She has completed two marathons, several half marathons and other unique endurance events. Her passion for adventure motivated her to start her own “adventure blog” www.whatsupwithdana.com which she hopes will inspire others to experience new things like Stand Up Paddle Boarding. When she isn’t blogging or having fun outdoors she stays busy with her “day job” as Vice President of National Accounts for Steritech, a food safety and brand protection company based in the Charlotte area.
Rob C.
Rob has spent his life in, on and around the water. He spent his childhood years splashing around Lake Norman and obtained his SCUBA certification as a teen. Rob went on to major in Oceanography at the United States Naval Academy. He is a qualified U.S. Navy Officer-of-the-Deck and has steamed, paddled, dove and swam waters at many latitudes.
In addition to his water-borne adventures, Rob once had eight teeth pulled in one sitting, played a set with Hootie and the Blowfish, and rescued a large iguana from a roaring house fire.
Rob is currently a Captain on the Charlotte Fire Department serving on Engine 7 in Charlotte's NoDa District. He has B.S. in Oceanography from the United States Naval Academy, a Master of Public Administration from UNC-Charlotte and a Graduate Diploma in National Security Studies from the Naval War College. He is fully qualified in CPR and as an Emergency Medical Technician, and qualified as a Swift Water Rescue Technician.
Rob serves as a volunteer admissions officer for the United States Naval Academy, and leads a Charlotte chapter of Heroes of Tomorrow (see CharlotteHOT.wordpress.com).
Rob lives in Cornelius, NC with his beautiful wife Michelle and their 4 children.
Rob's favorite quote: Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. -Theodore Roosevelt 26th president of US (1858 - 1919)

Kelly A.
Kelly’s adventurous and energetic nature keeps her continuously on the lookout for something new and exciting. She recently moved to Lake Norman from Washington, DC and can now be seen often on the water. In addition to paddle boarding, Kelly enjoys kayaking, sculling, boating and jet skiing. She is also an avid bicyclist and motorcyclist and enjoys hiking and rollerblading.
Kelly’s enthusiastic nature sometimes proves to be a challenge as she has a tendency to “bite off nearly more than she can chew”. Often her hikes and bicycle rides end up much longer than originally planned as she hates to turn around, so she just keeps on going… There’s also not much that she won’t try. Hot air ballooning, sky diving and alpine slide racing are just a few examples.
Besides her outdoor interests, Kelly also has a passion for travel. She and her husband have traveled extensively throughout Europe and Africa and are looking forward to seeing other parts of the world as well. In addition to staying busy with their hobbies and interests, Kelly and her husband are also actively pursuing opportunities to grow their newly-established business, Piedmont Consulting Services, LLC.
Jim R.
- I moved up here to Cornelius a year and a half ago to take a position as Manager of Brixx Pizza in Birkdale.
- I enjoy backpacking, running, soccer, snow boarding, kayaking and most recently paddle boarding. You can often find me on the water at sunrise in between the old Latitude 36 and Vineyard Point.
- I fell in love with SUP after just one lesson with Rob. It gives you the opportunity to not only exercise but have fun while paddling around the lake. I am currently training for the Thunder Road half marathon and paddling in the mornings have been a great way to cross train.
Tom D.
I'm originally from Chicago and attended school at the University of North Dakota for aviation. Moved to Charlottesville, VA where my love for the outdoors really grew. Mountain biking, camping, fly fishing and Miller's tavern became my way of life. There was nothing better than enjoying the days outside and finish the night watching live music over a pint AND Getting paid to fly airplanes for a living was icing on the cake. After a few years I missed having a major city close by so I moved to Cornelius in 2007. I found being near the lake, mountains and ocean with Charlotte just 20 minutes away was great future. I took just one lesson with Rob and my fiance and I knew it was going to be our sport. I look forward to introducing the sport to you and you'll see not only the fun but also the social scene of SUP. You'll catch me on LKN but also on the Outer Banks where I get married in May!
