The Hawaiian translation is Ku Hoe Ne'e Nalu, which means to Stand, to Paddle, to surf a wave.
From the 1960's, the boys on the beach would use paddles so they could stand and take pictures of the tourists learning to surf.
Today there are just as many Stand Up Paddlers going out to the sweet spots to catch waves As there are surfers on Waikiki beach. what was once considered a possible trend has become Globally and rapidly spread to lakes, rivers, oceans, and practically anywhere there is water.
Rumors have even surfaced about SUP racing becoming an Olympic Sport, and definitely part of a different Triathlons.
The main advantage with SUP, is that any open body of water is an opportunity to enjoy paddleboarding. Even surfers are cross training more to enjoy the water when the surf is down, improve their balance training, and reap the benefits from a core workout as well.
